Product Description

Hastelloy C-4 ( UNS N06455 ) super alloy metallographic stability and oxidation resistance

General Overview:

Hastelloy C-4 is a nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy known for its exceptional resistance to a wide variety of chemical environments and its stability across a broad range of temperatures. It is specifically designed to resist corrosion in highly aggressive conditions, making it suitable for use in chemical processing, pollution control, and other demanding industrial applications.

Hastelloy C-4 offers excellent resistance to localized corrosion such as pitting and crevice corrosion, as well as resistance to stress corrosion cracking. It performs well in both oxidizing and reducing environments and is resistant to a wide range of acids, including sulfuric, hydrochloric, and nitric acids. The alloy maintains its mechanical properties and corrosion resistance across a wide range of temperatures, making it suitable for high-temperature applications up to approximately 1038°C (1900°F). Hastelloy C-4 can be readily fabricated using standard techniques, including welding, which retains its corrosion resistance after welding. The alloy's composition is designed to prevent the formation of grain-boundary precipitates in the weld heat-affected zone, ensuring it remains resistant to intergranular corrosion after welding.

Applications:

Hastelloy C-4 is utilized in various industries due to its outstanding corrosion resistance and thermal stability:

  1. Chemical Processing:

    • Reactors, heat exchangers, and evaporators.
    • Components exposed to highly corrosive environments, such as acid production and processing equipment.
  2. Pollution Control:

    • Equipment used in flue gas desulfurization systems.
    • Scrubbers and ducting for handling corrosive gases.
  3. Nuclear Industry:

    • Components that require resistance to corrosive environments and radiation.
  4. Pharmaceutical Industry:

    • Equipment used in the production and handling of pharmaceuticals where purity and resistance to contamination are critical.
  5. Pulp and Paper Industry:

    • Digesters, bleach plants, and other equipment exposed to harsh chemicals.
