Product Description

WASPALOY/N07001/2.4654/GH4738 Bar/Rod/Wire/Forging/Plate/Strip With Long-term Performance In Aerospace

WASPALOY (UNS N07001 / W.Nr. 2.4654 / GH4738) is a nickel-based superalloy known for its high-temperature strength, oxidation resistance, and creep resistance. It is ideal for use in gas turbines, aerospace, and power generation applications that operate at temperatures up to 950°C (1740°F). The alloy is strengthened by precipitation hardening, providing excellent resistance to fatigue, thermal shock, and stress corrosion cracking. WASPALOY performs well in oxidizing and carburizing environments, making it suitable for critical engine components like turbine blades and discs. It also exhibits good weldability and fabricability, making it versatile for bar, rod, wire, forging, plate, and strip forms used in demanding industrial and aerospace applications.

Overview of WASPALOY

WASPALOY is a nickel-based superalloy developed for use in high-temperature applications, especially in gas turbines and aerospace components. Known for its high strength, oxidation resistance, and creep resistance at elevated temperatures, WASPALOY is primarily used in environments where components are exposed to extreme mechanical stress and high-temperature conditions. This alloy has excellent fatigue resistance, high thermal stability, and performs well in oxidizing and reducing environments.

Key Features (All Forms)

Exceptional High-Temperature Strength

  • Retains high strength and creep resistance at temperatures up to 1,100°C (2,010°F).
  • Excellent resistance to deformation under high mechanical and thermal loads, making it ideal for turbine blades, discs, and other critical parts exposed to extreme temperatures.

Oxidation and Corrosion Resistance

  • Provides excellent oxidation resistance and corrosion resistance in both oxidizing and carburizing atmospheres at elevated temperatures.
  • Performs well in environments exposed to sulfur, chlorine, and hot gases.

Precipitation Hardening

  • Strengthened by precipitation hardening, which contributes to high mechanical strength and resistance to creep at elevated temperatures.
  • The alloy's ability to undergo age-hardening provides exceptional strength in the high-temperature range.

Good Fabricability and Weldability

  • Although a high-performance alloy, WASPALOY is relatively easy to fabricate, machine, and weld.
  • Standard welding techniques can be used, but post-weld heat treatment is often recommended to restore strength and integrity.

Excellent Fatigue Resistance

  • Outstanding fatigue resistance in environments that experience thermal cycling and vibration, making it suitable for critical rotating and load-bearing parts like turbine blades.

Form-Specific Applications

Bar / Rod

  • Used in gas turbine rotors, discs, blades, and shafts for aerospace engines and industrial turbines.
  • Also used for fasteners, spring wires, and critical load-bearing components in high-temperature environments.

Wire

  • Ideal for welding wire, spring wire, filler material, and high-temperature fastening applications.
  • Offers excellent creep resistance, fatigue resistance, and long-term performance in high-temperature environments.

Forging

  • Forged into turbine blades, discs, rings, shafts, and other hot-section components.
  • Excellent choice for applications requiring strength under high mechanical stress and extreme temperatures.

Plate / Strip

  • Used in high-performance components in gas turbines, compressors, burner tips, and heat exchangers.
  • Provides thermal stability, resistance to oxidation, and excellent high-temperature strength for flat components exposed to hot gases.
