Product Description

Hastelloy B-3/2.4600/N 10675 Bar/Rod/Wire/Forging/Plate/Strip Ideal For Various Demanding Industries

Hastelloy B-3 (UNS N10675 / W.Nr. 2.4600) is a nickel-molybdenum alloy engineered for excellent resistance to hydrochloric acid and other strongly reducing media. It offers improved thermal stability, fabrication, and weldability over its predecessor, Hastelloy B-2. The alloy resists pitting, stress corrosion cracking, and knife-line attack in welded conditions. Common forms include bar, rod, wire, forging, plate, and strip, widely used in the chemical processing industry for reactors, heat exchangers, and piping systems. Its performance remains strong in environments containing sulfuric, acetic, formic, and phosphoric acids, as well as non-oxidizing salts. Hastelloy B-3 is not recommended for use in oxidizing environments due to limited resistance in such conditions.

Overview of Hastelloy B-3

Hastelloy B-3 is a nickel-molybdenum alloy specially designed for exceptional resistance to hydrochloric acid and other aggressive reducing agents. It offers improved thermal stability and fabricability compared to earlier B-series alloys like Hastelloy B-2.

Key Features (All Forms)

Superior Resistance to Reducing Environments

  • Outstanding resistance to hydrochloric acid at all concentrations and temperatures.
  • Excellent performance in sulfuric, acetic, formic, and phosphoric acids.
  • Also resistant to wet hydrogen chloride gas, hypochlorite, and chlorine dioxide.

 Improved Thermal Stability Over B-2

  • Greater structural stability in the welded condition.
  • Less tendency to form deleterious phases such as grain boundary carbide precipitation and sigma phase.

 Enhanced Fabricability

  • More easily fabricated and welded than Hastelloy B-2.
  • Resists stress cracking and knife-line attack in the heat-affected zone during welding.

Resistance to Pitting and Stress Corrosion

  • Strong defense against pitting corrosion, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking in reducing media.

Form-Specific Applications

Bar / Rod

  • Used in agitator shafts, valve stems, fasteners, and high-strength supports in corrosive environments.
  • High mechanical integrity and corrosion resistance in critical plant equipment.

Wire

  • Ideal for spring wire, welding wire, and acid-resistant meshes.
  • Excellent ductility for forming and coiling.

Forging

  • Forged into reaction vessels, flanges, end caps, and nozzles.
  • Reliable in pressure equipment exposed to highly acidic or reducing environments.

Plate / Strip

  • Used in chemical reactors, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, and storage tanks.
  • High resistance to uniform and localized corrosion in flat applications.
