Key Features of CuNi10 NC015 2.0811 C70700 Copper-Nickel Alloy Wire:

  • Composition:

Copper (Cu): Approximately 90%, offering excellent thermal conductivity, electrical conductivity, and ductility.

Nickel (Ni): Approximately 10%, enhancing corrosion resistance and providing increased strength compared to lower-nickel copper alloys.

Iron (Fe) and Manganese (Mn): Minor elements that further enhance the alloy’s strength and resistance to corrosion.

  • Corrosion Resistance:

Marine and Seawater Resistance: The 10% nickel content makes CuNi10 highly resistant to seawater corrosion, making it an ideal material for marine applications such as seawater cooling systems, piping, and heat exchangers exposed to aggressive marine environments.

General Corrosion Resistance: The alloy’s resistance to mild acids, alkaline solutions, and oxidizing environments makes it suitable for use in chemical processing, oil and gas industries, and industrial piping systems.

Biofouling Resistance: CuNi10 resists the accumulation of marine organisms (biofouling), a key advantage in heat exchangers and other components exposed to water and marine life.

  • Mechanical Properties:

Moderate Strength: CuNi10 offers higher strength than pure copper, making it suitable for applications that require moderate strength while maintaining ductility and formability.

Fatigue Resistance: The alloy performs well under conditions of thermal cycling and mechanical vibration, making it durable in dynamic environments such as those found in marine or industrial systems.

Workability: CuNi10 is easy to process into wires, tubes, rods, and sheets. It can be cold-worked or hot-worked with relative ease, enabling it to be fabricated into different forms for various applications.

  • Electrical and Thermal Conductivity:

Electrical Conductivity: While CuNi10’s electrical conductivity is lower than pure copper, it still provides adequate electrical performance for applications such as wires, electrical cables, and connectors.

Thermal Conductivity: The alloy offers good thermal conductivity, making it ideal for use in heat exchangers, cooling systems, and thermal management systems.

  • Weldability and Fabrication:

Weldability: CuNi10 can be welded using standard methods such as TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) and MIG (Metal Inert Gas), though care must be taken to manage heat input to avoid oxidation.

Formability: CuNi10 is easily worked into a variety of shapes, making it a versatile material for manufacturing products such as wires, tubes, and plates.

Applications:

  • Marine Applications: CuNi10 is ideal for seawater piping, heat exchangers, desalination plants, and other marine hardware exposed to saltwater, where corrosion resistance and biofouling resistance are critical.
  • Chemical Processing: The alloy’s resistance to mild acids and alkaline solutions makes it suitable for chemical processing equipment, industrial piping, and valves.
  • Heat Exchangers and Cooling Systems: CuNi10 is often used in cooling systems, heat exchangers, condensers, and thermal management devices where efficient heat transfer and corrosion resistance are required.
  • Electrical Components: The alloy is used for wires, connectors, and electrical cables in environments where moderate electrical conductivity and corrosion resistance are necessary.
